Danya Barrows - High Steaks Server and Level 2 Certified Sommelier

Meet Danya Barrows – High Steaks Food Server...
Here is her story-
I started working at Thunder Valley in August 2003, shortly after the casino opened. My background was in food service training, professional food management, and front line service at a small Italian restaurant in the Bay Area.

Thunder Valley has always encouraged employees to look for ways to grow through training. One opportunity for me was a training class with Master Sommelier Reggie Narito. This experience was very valuable, and even more so became a "wow" factor in seeing how professionals in the food and beverage industry can grow their career.

I then signed up for a Level 1 Certified Sommelier course -- not only was it fun and educational, I got to taste some of the best wines in the world! Our group visited the best wineries in Napa, where we learned about the wine industry as well as food and wine pairing.

A few years ago, I took the Certified Sommelier exam at the famed Spago Restaurant in Beverly Hills. While taking the exam, I came to the conclusion that this is what I love to do. My view of food and wine had evolved through this experience, and today, I love the challenge of helping our guests find the right pairing to complement their own tastes.

I enjoy the opportunity to work with a great team of service professionals here at High Steaks who are all passionate about providing our guests with a high level of service, along with fantastic food and wine.

In my free time I enjoy attending Bayside church, spending time with my son, and wine tasting of course. In fact, I'm thinking of starting my own wine tasting tour business in order to further share the tasteful delights that come with pairing food and wine. Cheers!

Lagunitas Beer Dinner- 10.24.13

 Last night we had our Lagunitas Beer Dinner at High Steaks - it was amazing!  Lagunitas is an incredible brewery in Petaluma that showcases what a real craft beer is all about.  When we thought about doing a beer dinner I knew it had to be Lagunitas - it was a huge success and we all had a lot of fun.  Pictured here is the menu that we served and one of the dishes - the Imperial braised Kobe short ribs with root vegetable mashed potatoes and tri-color carrots.

March of Dimes - Tsakopolous Library Galleria 10-17-13

 We attended the March of Dimes Celebrity Chef Auction at the Tsakopolous Library Galleria downtown on October 17th 2013.  It was a very successful event in which local Chefs and wineries raised over $150,000 for the charity.  Each Chef offered up a prize package for the auction - The High Steaks package was: For 8 Guests: Golfing at Whitney Oaks, Dinner at High Steaks, and a Balvenie Scotch tasting.  Chef Juan- the assistant Pastry Chef at the Casino and myself, Nikki Rios worked the event together.
